Seriously, though, my goal is to get up to running 6 miles in an hour. I plan to make the first try at that Wednesday. Today I went four miles in 40 minutes, so it seems like it should be possibe! I had to bump up the incline and speed toward the end, as it was getting too easy.
I do have a problem with meeting goals, though -- they motivate me until I achieve them, then the blah's set in. I'll think of what the next one should be before Wednesday.
Thad, I have the same problem with goals. That is why I am always setting the next goal before I complete the last one. If I don't have something I am working towards it is too hard to keep on going. Of course, that practice is what got me committed to doing triathlons. I made the mistake of saying, "what should I do next?" within ear shot of Ruth. Be careful about that. :) My goal this year is to finish the Jackson County Tri in 3 hours 15 minutes. I finished in 3 hours 42 minutes last year. It's a stretch goal, but it is getting me to the gym!!!
ReplyDeleteAs we age, we can't keep setting goals that are harder than previous goals. You have to learn to notice the intrinsic value of a hard effort.
ReplyDeleteThat said, Thad and Berta, you have a lot of room for new goals. I suggest a half marathon. Pick a race, pick a pace and do it.
See what I mean about saying something about needing new goals around Ruth? It just causes trouble! Trouble, I say! :)
